American Bull Dog

American Bull Dogs

i am planning on getting an american bull dog next week but i do not want to get anything unsafe for my children. bull dogs and pitts kinda look the same so i just want to know what is the difference

Find a reputable breeder of American Bulldogs in/near your area. Not only will can you guarantee that you’ll get the correct breed, you’ll also know you’re not getting the dog from an irresponsible breeder who may be breeding dogs of ill-health or temperament.

Also please note that an American Bulldog is no more or less "safe" around children than an American Pitbull Terrier. Both are dogs that can be a wonderful family pets if trained properly.

    One’s a bull dog, and one’s a pit bull.

Am Bulldogs are much larger and have looser lips. It’s easy to tell the difference.

the other is a bulldog and the other a pitbull of course, duh (sorry).. but they both really good with kids. dogs are only dangerous ’cause their owners want ‘em to be. but i think the bulldog is shorter, not quite sure. But i do know the english bulldog is shorter than the pitbull

American bulldogs and american pitbull terriers don’t even look similar.

ABs are bulldogs and pits are terriers.

Bulldogs and pitbulls do not look anything similar.

Am Bulldogs come from a bulldog past– they are bred for guardianship.

Pit bulls (American Pit Bull Terriers) were bred for more aggressive work (bull baiting, fighting, etc.)… they are terriers, and a such have a MUCH higher propensity for dog aggression and prey drives than Am. Bulldogs will.

    Pic references:

American Bulldogs are primarily white, with markings, they have a more "squashed" face and looser lips (jowls) [disclaimer: AmBulldog enthusiasts– my apologies if these pics are not the greatest representations of the breed– I am not as familiar with AmBulldgos as I am with APBTs)

Pic references of an American Pit Bull Terrier
(They are smaller than AmBulldogs, come in a variety of colors, and generally appear more toned and athletic, they have tight lips, and a very tapered, wedge shaped head) The pics of these dogs are going to follow more closely to the working variety of APBT, instead of the show variety.

Both can be unsafe – they are big dogs (especially American Bulldogs) which can knock small children over quite easily if overexcited/untrained.

Any breed/mix of dog can be aggressive – it’s all in the upbringing.

They both originated from the English Bulldog so are not hugely different really, but if you can’t tell the difference are you really ready to get one?
